Both cars are in desperate need of a few parts just to keep up with maintenance. Of course the stupid electrical parts for the Miata cost way more than a full brake job on the STi. But they are absolutely necessary parts for me to pass smog in California. I finally got my stock header in last night so solving the check engine ligh t(s) is the last step to making the car able to get Cali plates. My speedo does not work reliably and the camshaft position sensor always faults, even with a new sensor (changed it twice). So I will be grafting the new connector onto the car in order to get it to work right. Thankfully rockauto carries that stuff so I am good to go.
The STi most definitely needs rotors, that much is apparent anytime I am heavily braking downhill. I have seen worse that people continue to drive around on, but I for one enjoy having perfectly functioning brakes. A car that stops reliably is the most important priority to me. Plus the pads are pretty low anyways so it is clear these rotors are probably pretty damn old, likely OEM since the car wasnt tracked.
On the topic of brakes, the Miata still needs a brake caliper too (the rear right sticks sometimes and the bleeder screw siezed ). But considering it did fine at a track day without falling apart, it can wait. On the short list of things to do though!
Anyways, excited for a nice long drive up to SLO through fun routes only and a hike tomorrow on the Central Coast. Should be a good weekend.

How do you like the VVT in that miata? I’m working on the wiring portion of the VVT swap into a 91 I bought a few weeks ago.

Hahaha good luck with that mess! The electrical portions of vvt are a major pain and all of the sensors that go along with it are garbage. But I definitely prefer the power delivery vs the regular 1.8 in a NA or NB1. It isn't a ton faster in pure numbers but it feels much more alive, especially at the top end. I am glad I have it but I dread ever having to work on that. I had issues with the vvt getting dirty but it went away with running Rotella t6

Good tip on the oil. I’ll have to run the same. I’m going standalone MSPNP to run it. I’m making custom harnesses and everything. I don’t like myself too much apparently.

I run T6 in everything I own. I also should follow your lead and order some parts as well. Brakes, bushings, and bearings. I needs 'em.

it could be worse, you could be working on electronics in a German product lol. That is what I always say anytime I have electrical issues in the Miata, at least its solvable without a PHD.

In the Miata, I didnt really like how T6 ran so I had switched back to normal synthetic stuff. But I have generally been non-specific with brands for that car. I just make sure to get a decent full synthetic like the Mobil 1, Castrol, or some of the others. Definitely will continue using T6 in the Subaru though, that has certainly helped make it lose less oil.

I’m surprised
the brake pads are so cheap. I was paying about $65 for a set of rear pads for my Outback, that’s about $30 a side.

Rockauto is cheap as hell. I am hoping that it was not priced per side, I have never seen brake pads work that way at least. But yeah I’ve used Centric on the Miata and never had any issues so it was worth doing. I will found out if they are trash I guess, but I have no intentions of doing anything other than street driving that car. So it should be alright. Will see about lifespan of the pads but for that price, it also shouldnt matter if they die quick.

You own a Miata and an Eagle Eye. I’m not jealous at all

I think that price is for a per wheel, or a pair of pads. I would certainly confirm with rock auto. But damn the price is really good, $10.48 a side for my car.

Very true. My 1 series was starting to get electrical gremlins so I ditched it.

I just bought some much needed parts too. Bought some new poly trans mounts in the softer setting, I’m waiting on a new accelerator pedal linkage bushing from bmw and I ordered led headlights

When I have bought pads before, it was four pads in a box (for two wheels). But yeah I will have to contact them to confirm since that price is suspiciously low. Would hate to only have half the pads that I need lol. The information page for the parts seem to suggest that it is a whole set though.
